RichardCare and I have spent the day sorting out the Maxine GUI, so that it has a application-wide directory. Also specifying metadata for the files. ComOneeyedmenUtilConfiguration? has gained a properties list which contains items in the configuration, and any others read from file.

RichardCare and I spent a terrible morning trying to sort out what to do with unreferenced properties in ComOneeyedmenUtilConfiguration?. Finally we sorted it to take a default configuration a-la java.util.Properties, and even to be able to use an instance of its own superclass as its default, so that you can have Document derived from AppSettings, both loaded from files. This was all necessary to allow us to read arbitrary metadata settings from application or document. The GUI work is nearly finished.
We took an afternoon excursion to fix WebDAV in the MXFLibrarian. After much tracing and nashing we discovered I'd put a stray capital in creationDate, and Microsoft's DAV code is now more picky that it was. I reckon its not far from the current code to a reasonably fully functioning DAV, so RFC-2518 is my bedtime reading.
BroadbandAlton is taking an interesting new twist with BT announcing they will install if sufficient (200-500) registrations of interest.

The metadata GUI is almost finished, we just have to decide what to do if the generated filename already exists, or more to the point, how to do it.
Refactored the WebDAV so that PROPFIND, OPTIONS and GET are handled in the same fashion. Added a DAVException, and put the onus of sorting out any error status on the DAVResource methods. Added a MKCOL, and after some playing discovered that WebFolders does a HEAD before creating a directory. Added HeadMethod (as a superclass of GetMethod) and create new directory works.

Added a very simple PutMethod to the WedDAV, so now I can drag files and folders to and from the server. Some oddnesses, but I'm pretty close to deploying it on oneeeyedmen once I understand HTTP authentication.

Setting some simple metadata on the MXF files is finally up and running. The filename is generated from the title and inpoint, so should be relatively unique within a reel. We've saved the checkin until we're less jaded tomorrow morning, when we can also cast the other operations (ingest MXF, outgest) in the same form.
Added a (simplistic but effective) DELETE method to WebDAV. Armed with that it seems to work fine for both Microsoft Webfolders and WebDrive. Its time to try it out for real.

A frustrating time after aikido trying to get WebDAV running out of JBuilder. No joy yet - and even when I do I'm pretty convinced I'm going to need to restart the server to make the web.xml changes apparent. Thats just plain difficult at with the shared instance at WantJava. Should I suffer, upgrade, or move over to PeterBunyan's machine at UK2Net?

A happy day spent making all the Maxine ingest and outgest operations fit in the new framework of a current directory and selected file. Seems to work well.
BroadbandAlton ramping up, with LizGlasgow? showing an interest. Very useful, as I suspect that business users are vital to getting our way.
Have bitten the bullet and asked WantJava about giving me my own Tomcat instance.
